Classification of Titanium
pure titanium
Pure titanium is classified according to the content of impurity elements, usually with a purity of more than 99%. It has excellent stamping and welding properties, and its strength mainly depends on the content of interstitial elements such as oxygen and nitrogen. The density of pure titanium is 4.5 g/cm3 and the melting point is as high as 1800 degrees Celsius.

Titanium preparation method

When smelting titanium, it takes complicated steps. Ilmenite is turned into titanium tetrachloride, and then placed in a sealed stainless steel tank, filled with argon gas, so that they react with magnesium metal to obtain sponge titanium. Sponge titanium cannot be used directly, and it must be melted into liquid in an electric furnace before it can be cast into titanium ingots. However, this kind of electric furnace requires very high technology. In addition to the air in the electric furnace must be evacuated, what is more troublesome is that it is simply impossible to find a crucible for liquid titanium, because general refractory materials contain oxides, and the oxygen in them will be taken away by liquid titanium. Later, people finally invented an electric furnace with a "water-cooled copper crucible". Only a part of the central area of this electric furnace is very hot, and the rest is cold. After the titanium is melted in the electric furnace, it flows to the wall of the copper crucible cooled by water and immediately condenses into a titanium ingot.
