How Are Nitinol Alloy Parts Shaped?

Nitinol alloy parts are one of Nitinol alloy products. Nitinol is a smart material with memory effect, which can change its shape under the influence of external temperature, mechanical stress and other factors, and can restore its original shape under certain conditions. Its setting method mainly uses heat setting technology, and the specific steps are as follows:

Nitinol alloy parts are heated to a specific temperature, usually the transition temperature from the A phase to the M phase of the nickel titanium alloy, which is usually between 500-600°C. Keeping it at this temperature for a certain period of time causes the crystal structure to change. Then quickly cool to room temperature to complete this step of the shaping process.

After heat treatment, the Nitinol alloy is placed into conical or spherical shaping molds or sets, which are placed in the heat processor. Keep it for a certain period of time to set the nickel-titanium alloy in a specific shape.

The mold or kit is removed and the Nitinol alloy part is removed from the mold and subjected to surface preparation and subsequent processing.

The advantage of heat setting is that it can be customized into various complex shapes and will be fixed during the cooling process. However, this process may produce minor deformations and dimensional changes.

In addition, Nitinol alloy parts are easily oxidized during heat treatment, so care should be taken to protect the material from damage during handling.
