Pure nickel wire is one of the electronic component materials made of nickel material with a purity of more than 99.6%. It has good corrosion resistance, high-temperature strength, oxidation resistance, and excellent electrical conductivity, so it is widely used in electronic components, electric heating equipment, chemical industry, and other fields. Nickel wire can be processed and manufactured into various shapes according to different application requirements, such as wire, wire, strip, foil, and other shapes. At the same time, pure nickel metal wire can also be used in the field of chemical protection, the most common application is to manufacture the electroplating layer of centralized water supply pipelines to improve its corrosion resistance, wear resistance, and oxidation resistance.
1. Physical properties
- Density: The density is about 8.9 g/cm³.
- Melting point: The melting point is about 1,455°C.
- Coefficient of Thermal Expansion: Pure nickel wire has a coefficient of thermal expansion of 18.0 x 10-6/°C, so it expands or contracts as it heats up or cools down.
- Resistivity: The resistivity is about 7.8 x 10^-6 Ω·m, which is a good conductive material.
2. Chemical properties
- Corrosion resistance: It has good corrosion resistance and good stability to various acids, alkalis, and salt solutions.
- Easy to oxidize: It is easily oxidized at high temperatures to form nickel oxide.
- Solubility: It is easily soluble in strong acids such as nitric acid and hydrofluoric acid, and can form corresponding salts.
- Ferromagnetic: It is ferromagnetic and susceptible to external magnetic fields.

3. Production Process
The following is the production process of pure nickel wire:
- Nickel refining: First, nickel is extracted from ore, and the ore is melted under high temperature and high-pressure conditions, and then pure nickel is obtained by electrolysis.
- Drawing nickel wire: the refined nickel billet is drawn into filaments by means of high temperature and pressing.
- Nickel wire surface treatment: Nickel wire surface treatment can be done in a variety of ways, the most commonly used of which is electroplating. Electroplating coating can increase the corrosion resistance and wear resistance of nickel wire.
- Sorting and packing: Nickel wires with a certain length are sorted and cut to the proper length, then packed for easy transportation and storage.
The above is the production process of nickel wire, the whole process requires professional equipment and professional technology.

4. Working Principle
Pure nickel wire is usually used for resistors, thermocouples, and other components of electronic equipment. Its working principle is related to its purpose.
In the resistor, pure nickel metal wire will produce a certain size of resistance, and the magnitude of the current is controlled by the loss of the resistance. The resistance of a pure nickel metal wire is related to its length and cross-sectional area. The stronger the current, the greater the resistance loss, and the nickel wire will generate heat, but it can withstand higher temperatures, so it is suitable for use in high-temperature environments.
In a thermocouple, the temperature is measured using the different properties of the thermoelectric potentials of two pure nickel metal wires. When the temperature of two nickel wires is different, a certain thermal electromotive force will be generated between them. By measuring the change of this thermal electromotive force, the temperature change can be reversed to achieve the purpose of measuring temperature.
5. Application Fields
Pure nickel wire is widely used, mainly in the following fields:
- Electronic components: used for reactors, resistors, temperature controllers, heating wires, etc.
- Welding: used for high-purity alloys, welding of chemical pipelines, etc.
- Solar power generation: used in the manufacture of solar power panels.
- Chemical industry: used for surface spraying, chemical hydrochloric acid washing pipes, etc.
- Medical devices: It can be made into medical devices such as artificial heart pacemakers.
